How important is nutrition in fitness?
Nutrition is the key to the puzzle for maintaining a fit and healthy life. It’s not enough to be fit and regularly exercise, one must also realise that what you fuel your body with is just as important. There is no point working out for an hour to end with a fatty fried meal. To maintain your fitness and lose weight it’s a balance between regular exercise and healthy nutrition.
Are you actively competing as a bodybuilder?
If, so? Please tell us where, when and why you love to compete. I’m not competing as a natural bodybuilder at the moment as I’m currently focusing my energies on my other fitness projects in publishing and the entertainment industry. When you dedicate your life to fitness and bodybuilding it’s a great achievement to channel that energy into being a competitive athlete and standing on stage and feeling the appreciation from your peers for the many years of hard work in the gym. It’s a very rewarding sport not just for competing but for the results you see from regularly lifting weights and transforming your physique into a work of art.
Where in the world has bodybuilding and fitness taken you?
Bodybuilding transformed my life. It shaped my career into a unique vehicle that helped mark my place in Vietnamese history.
What advice do you have for those of us not so fit, that want to start working out in 2008?
The most important thing is to start moving!
It’s not necessary to dive straight into the gym particularly if you are a novice as the first day at a gym can be quite intimidating for a beginner. Start with exercise that you enjoy and that can easily fit into your schedule i.e: taking a power walk at lunch, using the stairs instead of the lift at work, walking to the next train or bus stop rather than the one closest to your home or work. By taking these simple steps will add over 10 minutes of cardiovascular training into your routine.
Make sure you take a good look at what you’re eating too. It’s not enough to simply start exercising if all day you are eating junk food. By gradually cutting out fatty, fried food and takeaways this will drop half your calorie and fat intake. Instead of soda why not have a refreshing glass of iced water with a slice of lemon. Instead of waking up to a cup of coffee try a power fruit smoothie. These small but simple steps will get you on track to a healthy lifestyle that you can easily maintain for the rest of your life.
